This is the first DVD burner I've owned, so I can't attest for it's speed - I have nothing to compare it to - but I've been on the typical new-owner disk burning orgy for over 2 weeks and the drive has not locked up nor has it created even 1 coaster.

Other thoughts:
*It installed easily enough - no problems with the form factor.

*The bundled Nero software does not work on Windows Vista, and there is no free upgrade. You'll have to leech it or do what I did and find some open source tools.

*I find the drive very quiet... I have had fast-spin DVD/CD ROM drives that sound like jets taking off... this one is whisper quiet.
